The Miss Oklahoma State Fair® Scholarship Pageant is continuing its tradition of assisting young women with their educational needs. This year, we will celebrate our 8th year as an official local preliminary pageant to the Miss America Pageant. We are honored that half our winners have become Miss Oklahoma and competed in the Miss America competition with success. Women between the ages of 17-24 are eligible to compete for scholarship and prizes and the coveted title of 2008 Miss Oklahoma State Fair® LIVE! The pageant will be held on the State Fair Grounds in the Carriage Hall beginning at 6:30 pm on Saturday, September 6, 2008. Tickets are $10. For more information, email Missokstfair@aol.com.

 

OKLAHOMA STATE FAIR® LIVE! 2008 OPENING & CLOSING CEREMONIES

Win Oklahoma State Fair® LIVE! Season and Parking Passes during the Opening Ceremony! (sign-up details below)

LIVE! in 2008, the 102nd Oklahoma State Fair®. Join us at the Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m. at the State Fair flag pole located on the East side of the circle at 14 Flags Plaza.

Two sets of Season and Parking passes will be given away during the opening ceremonies. You must register at the Toyota booth, located at the Toyota Entertainment Plaza or inside the AGtropolis Adventure located in the Oklahoma Expo Hall between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m and be present to win. The newly crowned Miss Oklahoma State Fair® will announce the winners.

Colors will be presented by the Capitol Hill High School Naval Junior ROTC. The National Anthem will be sung by Ms. Stefanie Fields and signed by the beautiful 2008 Indian Princesses.

Closing ceremonies will commence on Sunday, September 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the State Fair flag pole located on the East side of the circle at 14 Flags Plaza.

Ms. Stefanie Fields has sung the National Anthem for many Oklahoma events including the Redhawks, Blazers, Hornets, Yard Dawgz and Remington Park. She currently performs at the UCO Jazz Lab with Doctor Parker and the Shadowman Blues Project, was a member of the Sweet Adelines for 10 years, performed for various shows in Branson, MO and has won several local talent contests.

Commander Keith Lawrence has led the Capitol Hill High School Naval Junior ROTC in these ceremonies for several years.

AGTROPOLIS ADVENTURE – The Honey Bees are Coming!

Have an adventure in the whimsical “city” of AGtropolis.  New for 2008 is the Honey Bee Haven presented by the Oklahoma State Honey Beekeepers Association and hosted by several local clubs including The Central Oklahoma Beekeepers Association.  Returning for the 2nd year are the Oklahoma County Master Gardeners with their slinky, slimy worm display and Farmer Earl of Moomania, the comedy kids’ show about being a farmer.  After the show, stroll the city streets to see chickens hatch, goats climb, piglets snort, dairy cattle milked, beef cattle in their “secret cave,” rabbits hop, wool being spun into yarn, and BUGS just being BUGS!  Before you leave this amazing city, be sure to stop by “FARMER FOR A DAY,” where kids become a farmer and learn by doing while having a bushel of fun!

FARMER FOR A DAY

Children will step into the world of farming through this interactive exhibit and learn about harvesting and commerce.  Little ones will put on an apron, plant the crop, water the orchard, grab a basket to pick apples, gather eggs and dig up potatoes.  Then it’s off to the Farmers’ Market to sell their produce and receive AGtropolis money. The final stop will be at the AGtropolis General Store to buy a special Fair souvenir, should they choose to spend their recently earned income.

BARNYARD BIRTHING CENTER

The Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) and the Oklahoma State Fair® have teamed up their resources to bring Oklahoma City this spectacular educational exhibit.  Mother nature dictates all, but you may get lucky enough to actually see a chick hatching or a goat or pig being born.  If not, you will surely get to see the little ones born only a day or two earlier or maybe only an hour earlier.  You are welcome to ask the vet techs questions about any of the animals.

ANIMAL SURGICAL SUITE

The Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) Veterinarians will perform LIVE! surgeries to show the entire spaying process of a female dog.  It’s an educational experience for the whole family. 

All dogs having this procedure are provided by the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter and will be available for adoption.  So be sure to visit the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter table and find out more about how to take one of these loving pets home.

SPIRIT OF OKLAHOMA PLAZA – A CENTURY OF MEMORIES

Starting in 2002, this six year progressive historical exhibit about Oklahoma and the Oklahoma State Fair® has grown steadily by honoring two decades each year through music, sculptures and displays. 

2007 marked Oklahoma’s Centennial and the final sculpture, the state of Oklahoma, was placed at the end of this incredible educational exhibit. 

2008 will bring a few embellishments to the final sculpture and a new contest.

Oklahoma State Fair® LIVE! is proud to sponsor the annual Oklahoma Junior Art Exhibition.  Each year, teachers from schools across the state enter original artwork from students in grades K-8 for selection into the exhibition.

3rd ANNUAL OKLAHOMA RED HAT CHAPTERS DAY


GET OUT AND ENJOY A “FAIR” LIFE!

Purple, red, pink and lavender regalia will fill the fairgrounds as Red and Pink Hat Ladies are invited to the Fair for their very own special day of activities on Friday, September 12!

For only $8, you can enjoy the Fair’s famous foods, amazing attractions, exciting entertainment, and endless shopping but also participate in fun red hat activities in the Carriage Hall.

2008 will be great, as several new activities have been planned like the CHAPTERETTE APPRECIATION AWARDS, and the CHAPTER CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIPS. But put your game hats back on as the Red Hot Game Challenge returns for its second year and many other fun activities.

4th ANNUAL DEAF AWARENESS DAY

 

If you are deaf or hard of hearing, special activities abound for you on Thursday, September 18!  At designated times throughout the day, many Fair attractions and entertainment will be interpreted. These shows will be highlighted in red in the Oklahoma State Fair® LIVE! Visitor’s Guide.

Between the shows, make your way to the Carriage Hall building where you can enjoy entertainment by deaf and hard of hearing performers, including Miss Deaf Oklahoma! There will be several deaf organizations and deaf vendors offering valuable information, resources, networking opportunities and products, and, from 6 - 10 p.m. Be sure to participate in Deaf Chat. You won't want to miss this fun-filled day and evening at Oklahoma State Fair® LIVE!

Band Day Parade Competition!

32nd ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZENS’ DAY - GOLDEN AGE CELEBRATIONS

 

Come and be a part of the 32nd Annual Oklahoma State Fair® LIVE! Golden Age Celebration and help celebrate another great year of being aLIVE!  2008 brings with it some exciting new activities as well as some of the old favorites like the royalty contests and Senior Swing Dance. Senior Citizens’ Day is Wednesday, September 17 and all Seniors Citizens 55 and over are admitted to the Fair FREE on this day.

1ST ANNUAL OKLAHOMA STATE FAIR® LIVE! ARMWRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

Muscle bound and ready for the take down?  Prove yourself on Sunday, September 21 at the Bandshell Stage where both men and women can register the day of the event to enter this new Fair competition.  There will be two afternoon preliminary rounds with the finals commencing at 6:00 p.m.  Here’s your chance to be the Fair’s 1st annual champion, take home a trophy, bragging rights and represent us in Arizona, if you choose.

ANNUAL ARMWRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS LOGO
All competitors who win a match in their weight class will earn a national ranking and be posted on ARMWRESTLING USA’s website. There will be competition in 7 divisions, 5 men’s and 2 women’s by special designated weight classes.

Middleweight (170 - 193)
Light Heavyweight (194 - 219)
Heavyweight (220 & Above)

Every winner will be eligible to participate in the Grand Finale at the Arizona State Fair in October.  The winners will officially represent their area should they choose to go at their own expense.

Don’t miss these beautiful and behemoth horses presented by Express Clydesdales.  You can get up close and personal with these gentle heavyweights each day during the Fair.  You’ll be amazed at the grace of something so large.

RELIGIOUS SERVICES

Be inspired! Be instructed! Be entertained! The 2008 Oklahoma State Fair® LIVE! is proud to offer three different opportunities to reflect in the word of God offered by dedicated Christian horsemen and horsewomen! The first Sunday, Cowboy Church will be offered in the Sales Pavilion in Barn 3, starting at 9:30 am and ending at 10:30 a.m. On Thursday, Sept. 18 in the arena in Barn 6, Joyce Loomis Kernek will intersperse her vast wisdom of the Bible within a barrel racing clinic, to start at 9:00 a.m. The last Sunday of the State Fair, Sept. 21, Cowboy Church will again be held in the Sales Pavilion in Barn 3 starting at 9:15 am and ending at 10:15 am. At least one of the Sunday services will include the uplifting and entertaining songs of Cowboy Minister Steve Womack. All are welcome to come partake of the serenity and learning that the presentation of these devoted Christ followers will offer.
