THE CONNECTION! - a uniquely Oklahoma EXPERIENCE!

Visit the Oklahoma Expo Hall and open the doors to STATE FAIR STATION where you’ll experience all things that make our state unique!  This newly-themed exhibit hall is like no other – visitors will feel as though they have entered a modern-day transit depot where THE CONNECTION! runs on three distinctly colored “lines.” Featuring seven unique focal points, riders will enjoy such stops as Vineyard Marketplace, AGtropolis, MIO Trading Post, The Business District, Resource Square, Recreation Station and Backyard & Beyond! No matter what your interests, you’ll find all local vendors ranging from the wine industry to aerospace technology and our rich agricultural history to home-grown businesses. Make THE CONNECTION! – it’s all about OKLAHOMA.

STATION PLATFORMS

Located on THE CONNECTION! blue and green lines, the Station Platforms will be host to a multitude of activities. Whether educational, entertaining or just plain intriguing, all Station Platform performances will be live and interactive. Scheduled presentations might include: a mini “Fashion on a Budget” crash course; a “hands-on” learning seminar featuring baby animals of various species; short musical performances from a variety of genres and instruments; a “living history” performance by Will Rogers; and brief informational “how-to workshops” ranging in subject from safety issues to energy conservation. And remember, it’s on THE CONNECTION!, so all presentations are offered by fellow Oklahomans.

Daily schedules will be available via our Web site and also posted on system maps at informational kiosks located in STATE FAIR STATION.

THE CITY OF AGTROPOLIS – An agricultural state of fun!

Have an adventure in the whimsical “city” of AGtropolis. New for 2009 is Swinging K Farms Goat's Milk Soap Making Demonstrations and the 3 Silos Cinema now showing “Store Wars.”  So grab some goodies from one of our fantastic Fair vendors and come inside!

Yes, the Honey Bees, Butterflies and Worms are back!  Honey Bee Haven presented by the Oklahoma State Honey Beekeepers Association and hosted by several local clubs including The Central Oklahoma Beekeepers Association will have live honey bee hives. Can you find Queen BeeAtrice?  Returning for the 3rd year are the Oklahoma County Master Gardeners with their slinky, slimy worm display and the butterfly boarding house. And don’t forget Farmer Earl of Moomania as this fun comedy kids’ show will also be back in town.

After the show, stroll the city streets to see chickens hatch, goats climb, piglets snort, beef cattle in their “secret cave,” rabbits hop, wool spun into yarn, and BUGS just being BUGS!

FARMER FOR A DAY

 

Children will step into the world of farming through this interactive exhibit and learn about harvesting and commerce. Little ones will put on an apron, plant the crop, water the orchard, grab a basket to pick apples, gather eggs and dig up potatoes. Then it’s off to the Farmers’ Market to sell their produce and receive AGtropolis money. The final stop will be at the AGtropolis General Store to buy a special Fair souvenir, should they choose to spend their recently earned income.

BARNYARD BIRTHING CENTER

The Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) and the Oklahoma State Fair have teamed up their resources to bring Oklahoma City this spectacular educational exhibit.

Mother nature dictates all, but you may get lucky enough to actually see a chick hatching or a goat or pig being born. If not, you will surely get to see the little ones born only a day or two earlier or maybe only an hour earlier. You are welcome to ask the vet techs questions about any of the animals.

ANIMAL SURGICAL SUITE

 

The Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) Veterinarians will perform surgeries to show the entire spaying process of a female dog.  It’s an educational experience for the whole family. All dogs having this procedure are provided by the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter and will be available for adoption. So be sure to visit the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter table and find out more about how to take one of these loving pets home.

JUNIOR ARTS EXHIBITION
The Oklahoma State Fair is proud to sponsor the annual Oklahoma Junior Art Exhibition. Each year, teachers from schools across the state enter original artwork from students in grades K-8 for selection into the exhibition.

Oklahoma junior artists submit works in various media including painting, drawing, photography, clay work, weaving and sculpture. The selected projects, including Best of Show, Judges Choice and Superintendents’ Award will be celebrated at the Oklahoma Junior Art Exhibition and displayed throughout the run of the 2009 State Fair, September 17th-27th.

CANADIAN RIVERS OLD IRON CLUB ANTIQUE TRACTOR DISPLAY

The Tractors are on the move in the Senior Day Parade and to a new location.  See these amazingly preserved beauties in their new exhibit space located on Wichita Walk between the Oklahoma Expo Hall and the Cox Pavilion.

They may be antiques, but they still have spark and their engines will fire up on Wednesday, September 23, at Noon, for the Senior Day Parade. They are the main event, so you don’t want to miss the action as they cruise around the Park.

SPIRIT OF OKLAHOMA PLAZA – A CENTURY OF MEMORIES

 

Starting in 2002, this six year progressive historical exhibit about Oklahoma and the Oklahoma State Fair grew steadily by honoring two decades each year through music, sculptures and displays. 

2007 marked Oklahoma’s Centennial, and the final sculpture, the state of Oklahoma, was placed at the end of this incredible educational exhibit.

In celebration of 2009, it’s Spirit of Oklahoma Trivia Time!  How about free admission and parking passes to the 2010 Fair? All you have to do is ring the bell, walk through the state, answer a few trivia questions and enter your chance to win!  10 lucky winners will be drawn from correct entries!  The answers are among the arches! 
 
So look up, make your way to the Fair’s big arch and then stroll through the mini arches to relive the history of Oklahoma and the Great State of a Fair.

ADHD “RoADHD TRIP”

Most people have probably heard of ADHD, but have you ever wanted to learn more about what ADHD really is?  What symptoms to watch for?  Or how to minimize the effects of this condition on daily activities?  A public health awareness mobile unit will be on-site to screen for this neurobiological disorder which affects more than 4% of our adult population.  Adult participants will answer an on-screen questionnaire and then have access to literature, Web resources, on-site health care professionals, and a counselor from the local ADDA chapter.

What a great resource!  But the ADHD “RoADHD TRIP” will be at the Oklahoma State Fair for the first weekend ONLY -- so don’t delay!

WAHL “LET IT GROW” TOUR

Join the nation – Wahlnation.com that is. The Wahl “Let it Grow” Tour is heading to Oklahoma City as one stop on their nationwide tour to celebrate facial hair with Wahl Trimmers. As part of the celebration, they will also be hosting the Wahl “Man of the Year” Contest in search of the best beard, goatee and mustache in America. Premium prize giveaways will be part of the fun. The Miss Oklahoma State Fair Scholarship Pageant continues its tradition of assisting young women with their educational needs. This year will celebrate the 9th year as an official, local, preliminary pageant to the Miss America Pageant. We are honored that more than half the Miss Oklahoma State Fair winners have gone on to become Miss Oklahoma and compete in the Miss America competition with success. In fact, Lauren Nelson, Miss America 2007, was our very own Miss Oklahoma State Fair 2005! Women between the ages of 17-24 are eligible to compete for scholarship and prizes and the coveted title of 2009 Miss Oklahoma State Fair.

Ms. Rachel Ofori was the first official Oklahoma State Fair Outstanding Teen winner. Next year, she will be eligible to compete in qualifiers for the Miss America pageant. We wish her well with all her future endeavors. Women between the ages of 13-17 are eligible to compete for scholarships and prizes and the title of 2009 Miss Oklahoma State Fair Outstanding Teen.

OKLAHOMA STATE FAIR 2009 OPENING & CLOSING CEREMONIES

 

Win Oklahoma State Fair Season and Parking Passes during the Opening Ceremony!

2009 marks the 103rd Oklahoma State Fair. Join us at the Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, September 17 at 5:00 p.m. at the State Fair flag pole located on the East side of the circle at 14 Flags Plaza.

Four sets of Season and Parking passes will be given away during the opening ceremonies. BUT…You must register at the Creative Arts information booth located inside the Hobbies, Arts & Crafts building or inside AGtropolis located in the Oklahoma Expo Hall between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and you must be present to win. The newly crowned Miss Oklahoma State Fair and Miss Oklahoma Outstanding Teen will be on hand to announce the winners.

Colors will be presented by the Capitol Hill High School Naval Junior ROTC. Commander Keith Lawrence has led this outstanding group of young men and women in these ceremonies for several years, and the Oklahoma State Fair welcomes them back for the 2009 ceremonies.

The National Anthem will be sung by Ms. Alex Angelynn Hall and signed by the beautiful 2009 Indian Princesses.

Ms. Alex Hall won the OKCity Star contest held this past February and hosted by the OKCity Chorus of Sweet Adelines. Ms. Hall is currently a Music Theater Major at the University of Central Oklahoma and has been doing shows since she was three years old, when she debuted as a duckling in Once Upon a Mattress. This spring, she played the role of Toffee in Zombie Prom at UCO. She would like to thank her family and friends for being so supportive her entire life.

4th ANNUAL RED HAT CHAPTER DAY - A TIME FOR TEA

Purple, red, pink and lavender regalia will fill State Fair Park as Red and Pink Hat Ladies are invited to the 2009 Oklahoma State Fair for “tea time” and their very own special day of activities on Friday, September 18!

For only $6 (because you purchased the advance discount ticket), you can enjoy the Fair’s famous foods, amazing attractions, exciting entertainment, and endless shopping as well as participate in all the Red Hat activities in the Carriage Hall.

WAIT…ONLY SIX DOLLARS? That’s right, new for 2009 are discounted tickets for Red and Pink Hat ladies. However, you must belong to a chapter and they must be purchased in advance. To learn more about purchasing your $6 discounted admission ticket, you will have to click HERE. Don’t delay, because the price will be $8 at the gate!

5th ANNUAL DEAF AWARENESS DAY

If you are deaf or hard of hearing, special activities abound for you on Thursday, September 24! At designated times throughout the day, many Fair attractions and entertainment will be interpreted. These shows will be highlighted in red in the Oklahoma State Fair Visitor’s Guide.

Between the shows, make your way to the Carriage Hall building where you can enjoy entertainment by deaf and hard of hearing performers, including Miss Deaf Oklahoma! There will be several deaf organizations and deaf vendors offering valuable information, resources, networking opportunities and products. You won't want to miss this fun-filled day and evening at the Great State of a Fair! Deaf Awareness Day wouldn’t take place without support from the following:

BAND DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Band Day runs successfully each year, because OKC Jaycees donate their time and energy to make sure Oklahoma schools can participate in a quality event. 33rd ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZENS’ DAY - GOLDEN AGE CELEBRATIONS

Come and be a part of the 33nd Annual Oklahoma State Fair Golden Age Celebration and help celebrate the 2009 Great State of a Fair! The all-volunteer Senior Day Committee has been working hard all year to bring you new and exciting speakers, entertainers, health screenings and activities as well as some of the old favorites like the royalty contests and Senior Swing Dance. So pull on your best Fair attire and get ready for fun! 

Join us Wednesday, September 23 and all Seniors Citizens 55 and over will be admitted to the Fair FREE on this day.

ASC CHEERLEADING, DANCE & POM PON REGIONAL COMPETITION

Witness the most "spirited" event held at the Fair as Cheerleading, Dance and Pom Pon teams compete for the regional title and the chance to advance to the National competition!

2nd ANNUAL OKLAHOMA STATE FAIR ARMWRESTLING CLASSIC

 

Muscle bound and ready for the take down? Prove yourself on Sunday, September 27 at the Bandshell Stage where both men and women can register the day of the event to enter this strong-arm competition. There will be two afternoon preliminary rounds with the finals commencing at 6:00 p.m. Here’s your chance to be the Fair’s 2nd annual champion, take home a trophy, bragging rights and represent the Oklahoma State Fair in the National finals in Arizona.

All competitors who win a match in their weight class will earn a national ranking and be posted on ARMWRESTLING USA’s website. There will be competition in 7 divisions: 5 men’s and 2 women’s by special designated weight classes.

Men’s:

Featherweight (under 144)
Lightweight (145 -169)
Middleweight (170 - 193)
Light Heavyweight (194 - 219)
Heavyweight (220 & Above)

Women’s:

Featherweight (under 144)
Open (145 & Above)

Every winner will be eligible to participate in the National Finals at the 2009 Arizona State Fair in October. The winners will officially represent their area, should they choose to go, at their own expense.

Sunday, September 27 • Registration:  1:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Preliminary Round 1 @ 1:30 p.m.
Preliminary Round 2 @ 3:30 p.m.
Finals – 6:00 p.m.

Be inspired! Be instructed! Be entertained! The 2009 Oklahoma State Fair is proud to offer two different opportunities to reflect in the word of God offered by dedicated Christian horsemen and horsewomen! On the first Sunday, September 20, Cowboy Church will be offered in the Capital City Theatre in Barn 3, starting at 9:30 am and ending at 10:30 a.m. On the last Sunday of the State Fair, September 27, Cowboy Church will again be held in the Capital City Theatre in Barn 3 starting at 9:30 am and ending at 10:30 am. Sunday services will include the uplifting and entertaining songs of Cowboy Minister Steve Womack. All are welcome to come partake of the serenity and learning that the presentation of these devoted Christ followers will offer.
